The Onogie of Udo-Eguare, a prominent traditional ruler in Edo State, has been successfully rescued by the Edo State Police after spending four days in captivity. The rescue operation, which took place on 7 February 2024, followed an intensive search by security forces.
According to a statement from the Edo State Police Command, the rescue was carried out under the direct supervision of Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin. The Onogie, who was abducted on 3 February 2024, was freed safely in the evening of 7 February.
CP Otimenyin expressed her gratitude to all those involved in the operation, particularly highlighting the logistical support provided by Edo State Governor, HE Sen. Monday Okpebholo. The Commissioner also praised local vigilantes, hunters, and members of the community for their invaluable assistance during the search.
In the statement released to Uptown Press NG on Saturday, the Police Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state. “We remain resolute in our efforts to safeguard the people of Edo,” CP Otimenyin stated.
