The former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed his satisfaction with the recent judgment of the country’s Supreme Court that dismissed the petitions filed against President Bola Tinubu’s election.
He stated that, the verdict provides a sense of relief to him and many Nigerians, who had been waiting eagerly for the outcome of the case.
The apex court on Thursday dismissed the petitions filed by the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
The seven-man panel, led by Justice John Okoro, ruled that the petitions lacked merit and there was no evidence to support the claims of electoral fraud and irregularities made by Abubakar and Obi.
Buhari, who had contested against Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election, urged the former vice president and Peter Obi to accept the hand of fellowship extended to them by the Tinubu-led administration.
He emphasized the need for all Nigerians to come together and work towards the development of the country, regardless of their political affiliations.
The former President’s remarks were shared through a post on X (formerly Twitter) by his former Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Thursday.
The judgment of the Supreme Court has been widely welcomed by many Nigerians, who see it as a victory for democracy and a step towards ensuring free and fair elections in the country.
