Burna Boy Loses “Best Male R&B/Pop Artist” Award to Usher at 2024 BET Awards

Los Angeles– The 2024 BET Awards concluded with a mix of surprise and excitement, as American R&B legend Usher triumphed over Nigeria’s global sensation Burna Boy to clinch the “Best Male R&B/Pop Artist” award.
The star-studded event, held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, celebrated the best in Black entertainment and culture, drawing attendees and viewers from around the world.
Burna Boy, who has rapidly ascended to international fame with his unique blend of Afro-fusion and compelling stage presence, was a strong contender for the award.
Known for hits such as “Last Last” and “Kilometre,” Burna Boy has been a consistent force in bringing African music to a global audience. His nomination in this category was a testament to his influence and the widespread appeal of his music.


Usher, a veteran in the music industry with a career spanning over two decades, proved that his appeal remains undiminished. His win was met with loud cheers and applause from the audience, acknowledging his sustained contribution to the R&B and pop genres.
Usher’s recent work, including his latest album, “Confessions II,” has resonated deeply with fans and critics alike, reinforcing his status as a musical powerhouse.
In his acceptance speech, Usher expressed gratitude to his fans and fellow nominees, emphasizing the importance of supporting and uplifting each other in the industry.

The BET Awards, known for its celebration of Black excellence across music, sports, and entertainment, showcased memorable performances, heartfelt speeches, and moments of unity and inspiration.
This year’s event also highlighted the global influence of African artists, with Burna Boy and other nominees from the continent representing a significant and growing presence on the international stage.
As the night concluded, fans and attendees alike celebrated the achievements of all the artists, acknowledging that the spirit of music and creativity transcends borders and unites people worldwide.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Tems has won the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award for “Me & U” at the 2024 BET Awards .
It is her 4th career win at the ceremony. She now ties Wizkid and Burna Boy as the most awarded Nigerian acts in BET history.
