On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, Hon. Barrister Christopher Agbunwanegbe, a distinguished elder statesman and legal luminary, marked his 71st birthday with a low-key yet grand celebration at his residence in Benin City.

The event, though intimate, was filled with joy, camaraderie, and heartfelt appreciation for the patriarch of the Agbunwanegbe family.

The celebration drew close family members, friends, and well-wishers, including prominent figures such as members of the Knights of St. John, and the Elders Forum of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council.

The evening was characterized by lively conversations, wining, and dining, as attendees gathered to honour a man who has made significant contributions to his community and country.

Barrister Agbunwanegbe’s illustrious career spans several decades, during which he served as a lawmaker in the Old Bendel State House of Assembly in 1983. His public service record also includes roles as a Federal Board Member of the National Gallery of Arts under the administration of former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, and as a Special Adviser on Information to Reverend Igbinedion.

Additionally, he was the Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry of Agriculture in Benin City, where he left an indelible mark.

During the celebration, Barrister Agbunwanegbe expressed his contentment with life, stating that he feels fulfilled and blessed. As one of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Benin City, he continues to be a respected voice in the political landscape of Edo State.

Reflecting on his personal life, the celebrant credited his 46-year marriage to his “elegant jewel of inestimable value,” Mrs. Agbunwanegbe, as one of the key factors that has sustained him through life’s journey. He also expressed pride in having raised his children with a strong foundation in faith and education, while praying for God’s continued protection and good health for his family.

Addressing the state of the nation, Barrister Agbunwanegbe commented on the recent #EndBadGovernance protests in Nigeria. He urged President Bola Tinubu to reconsider some of his policies to alleviate the hardship currently being experienced by Nigerians, emphasizing the need for a more compassionate approach to governance.
