A student union election at the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, descended into chaos on Saturday after suspected cultists stormed the venue, disrupting proceedings and snatching ballot boxes. The violence left scores of students injured and forced many others to flee for safety.
Eyewitnesses said the attack occurred mid-way into the Student Union Government (SUG) election process when alleged members of a local cult group, believed to be working in favour of a particular candidate, launched a violent assault on the venue.
Naija Confra confirmed that, the attackers — reportedly Auchi indigenes — insisted that their preferred candidate must emerge victorious. “Before the voting ended, they started shooting into the air, stabbing people and causing panic. Some students fainted, and even those who ran into a nearby church for refuge were not spared,” a distraught student recounted.
Another eyewitness described the atmosphere as “warlike,” with students scrambling for cover as gunshots rang out across the campus. “These are the same people complaining about bad governance in Nigeria, yet they are rigging student elections using cultists and thugs,” the source lamented.
Several students reportedly sustained stab wounds during the attack. However, the exact number of casualties and their medical conditions remain unclear as of the time of filing this report.
Neither the Edo State Police Command nor the management of Auchi Polytechnic has released an official statement regarding the incident. Efforts to reach school authorities and local security operatives for comment were unsuccessful as at Sunday morning.
The election has since been suspended, and tension remains high on campus.

It is obvious that Nigeria is doomed. If students at this age can do this to get power, it goes to show the entire decay in our society.
