Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has extended heartfelt greetings to children across the State and the nation in celebration of this year’s Children’s Day, calling on parents and guardians to actively dissuade their wards from being lured into cult groups.
In a goodwill message marking the occasion, Governor Okpebholo described Children’s Day as a moment to reflect on the limitless potential and vibrant spirit of young people, who he referred to as the “true leaders of tomorrow”. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering an environment where every child can flourish, stressing the importance of quality education, rights protection, and youth empowerment.
“Our children are our most precious assets,” the Governor said. “Their dreams are the blueprints for a brighter future for Edo State. As an administration, we are fully dedicated to investing in their development, protecting their rights, and nurturing their talents.”
Highlighting key policies, Governor Okpebholo noted several measures being implemented to improve the lives of children across the State. He underscored the government’s resolve to revitalise public education, citing the declaration of a state of emergency in the sector and ongoing school reconstruction and renovation efforts aimed at enhancing learning conditions.
The Governor emphasised the importance of shielding children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation, assuring that the State government continues to enforce laws that safeguard children and promote their access to education.
Youth Development: Governor Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s dedication to providing young people with opportunities for personal and professional growth while confronting the challenges of cultism, drug abuse, and violence.
He called on all stakeholders — including parents, teachers, community leaders, and civil society — to take an active role in mentoring children and instilling in them the values of discipline, hard work, and integrity.
“We believe that every child deserves a fair chance at success, irrespective of their background,” he said. “We will continue to work tirelessly to provide them with the necessary tools and support to excel in their academic pursuits, develop their skills, and contribute meaningfully to society.”
