Pandemonium gripped the quiet community of Warrake Road in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State on Friday afternoon as a young vulcanizer, simply known as Boyo, was executed in broad daylight by unknown gunmen in a chilling attack that has left residents stunned and terrified.

The brazen murder occurred just before 4pm, when two armed assailants stormed the roadside shop where Boyo operated his vulcanising business. Eyewitnesses say the pair arrived on a motorcycle, with the passenger calmly dismounting, walking up to the unsuspecting tradesman, and shooting him twice at point-blank range without uttering a single word.

“It happened so fast. The shooter didn’t say a word. He just fired and escaped with the bike rider. We were all terrified,” a nearby trader told reporters, visibly shaken and requesting anonymity for fear of reprisal.

Boyo, described by locals as diligent and soft-spoken, died on the spot—his lifeless body left in a pool of blood as his killers vanished without a trace. The horror of the scene has thrown the Warrake Road community into deep mourning and rising fear, with many questioning how such a heinous act could be carried out so effortlessly in a normally tranquil part of Auchi.

“This is a nightmare,” said one community elder. “He was just a young man trying to earn an honest living. How can someone be murdered in such a brutal manner, in broad daylight? We urge the authorities to act swiftly before this menace grows wings.”

At the time of filing this report, the police had yet to issue an official statement on the incident. No arrests have been made, and speculation is rife, with some residents whispering about possible cult links, although no motive has been confirmed.

“This was not just a killing—it was a message,” one resident warned. “If the killers are not caught, who knows who might be next?”
