The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) has approved sweeping promotions and appointments, including four new Deputy Comptroller-Generals (DCGs), twelve Assistant Comptroller-Generals (ACGs), and the elevation of more than 3,500 officers, in a major shake-up aimed at strengthening leadership and operational efficiency.
The decisions were reached at the Board’s 63rd regular meeting held on Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun.
The newly appointed DCGs are AB Mohammed (North-West), GO Omale (North-Central), OC Orbih (South-South), and D Nnadi (South-East). The twelve new ACGs span the six geopolitical zones, reflecting the Federal Character principle enshrined in the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.
In addition, the Board confirmed the promotion of 3,312 senior officers across various ranks, alongside 202 junior officers elevated during the Service’s management meeting of 29th August 2025.
Reviewing performance, the Board reported that Customs generated ₦3.68 trillion between January and June 2025, exceeding projections by nearly ₦390 billion (11.85%). This represents 55.93% of its annual revenue target, which the Board attributed to reforms, improved compliance, and technology-driven operations.
Operational updates presented included the expansion of the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS) codenamed B’Odogwu, deployment of six new scanners including the advanced FS6000 model, procurement of Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS) equipment, and reinforcement of cybersecurity infrastructure.
The Board also reaffirmed Customs’ role in driving the National Single Window (NSW) project, noting the Service’s involvement in vendor selection, ICT support, and trade facilitation processes.
On disciplinary matters, two officers were demoted for misconduct, while two others were reinstated after case reviews.
Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, congratulated all those elevated, charging them to justify the confidence reposed in them. He restated the Service’s commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and global best practices, while thanking the Finance Minister for his support.
