Terror returned to the Benin-Auchi Road highway on Friday evening as gun-wielding kidnappers waylaid a fully loaded New Edo Line bus and two other vehicles, dragging passengers into the forest at gunpoint.
The assailants struck with military precision, forcing their victims down a bush path into a hideout deep in the forest before security agents arrived for a belated rescue operation.
The exact number of abducted passengers remained unclear at press time, as neither ransom demands had been made nor any official statement issued by the Edo Police Command.
The Benin-Auchi Road has become a corridor of fear in recent years, with bandits repeatedly targeting travellers despite security deployments.
