The Dele Giwa Essay Competition is an excellent platform designed to encourage young writers across Nigeria and Etsako Central Local Government Area to showcase their talent and contribute to national discourse. The committee members have worked tirelessly to ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place for a successful competition. The first stage of the competition will take place in designated venues across Etsako Central LGA from 22nd to 24th January 2024. Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their writing skills and engage in thought-provoking discussions on a range of topics. Eminent scholars and judges will evaluate the essays based on originality, clarity of thought, and coherence, providing valuable feedback to the participants.
After a few days of intense competition, the Grand Finale of the Dele Giwa Essay Competition is scheduled to take place on 31st January 2024 at council Hall Fugar in Etsako Central LGA. The finalists will present their essays to a distinguished panel of judges, comprising renowned writers, journalists, and scholars. The top three winners will be announced at the event, and they will receive cash prizes, certificates of recognition, and a chance to have their essays published in prominent media outlets.

Dele Giwa who was the editor and Co-founder of Newswatch magazine was killed by a parcel bomb in his home at Ikeja, Lagos, while in his study with Kayode Soyinka, on Sunday 19 October 1986.
On the morning of 19th of October, 1986 a package was delivered to his residence House 25 Talabi Stree with the letter received by Giwa’s guard while the guard handed it over to Giwa’s son, Billy.
