No fewer than 800 Nigerians deported from the Republic of Niger have been received by security agencies at the Jibia–Magama border in Katsina State, in a development that has triggered intensified screening and reintegration efforts.
According to an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the returnees—comprising men, women, and children—arrived at about 9:30 a.m. on Sunday in eight buses.
Immigration officials disclosed that the group included approximately 345 men and 185 women, alongside several children, drawn from different parts of the country, including Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Niger, Taraba, Adamawa, Enugu, Sokoto, Ebonyi, Gombe, Plateau, Delta, Lagos, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The deportees were received by a joint team of security personnel at Magama Jibia and are currently undergoing profiling by officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, the Police, and other intelligence agencies.
Authorities said the exercise is aimed at proper documentation and security screening, as well as determining the immediate needs of the returnees.
Following the profiling process, many of the deportees are expected to be transferred to Kano State and other designated locations for further assistance and reintegration.
