Nigeria’s ambition to strengthen its digital economy received a boost on Tuesday as industry leaders, innovators, and young professionals converged in Lagos for the inaugural Digital Professional Fair 2025.
The event, which started on Monday, was convened by Ms Tutu Adetunbi, served as both a talent incubator and a policy-aligned platform, aimed at equipping Nigerian youths with the skills, strategies and mindset needed to compete in the global digital marketplace
In her address, Ms Adetunbi said the fair was part of a wider effort to close the skills gap, tackle industry challenges, and expand career opportunities in a sector that holds vast potential for economic growth. “If we are to see Nigeria’s digital economy thrive, we must prepare our young people to lead it,” she declared.
Speakers drew connections between personal career development and the country’s broader economic future. Creative Resource Consultant, Ms Uchechi Ihuoma, pointed to the accessibility of digital marketing as an entry point for young entrepreneurs, while emphasising that sustained practice, collaboration and skill monetisation were essential for competitiveness.
Founder of Fuse Variety, Miss Hassanant Abubakar, framed her four pillars of digital growth — skill, systems, structure and strategy — as tools not only for business success but also for building a resilient digital workforce.
Digital strategist Miss Amarachi Ogbonna urged participants to view freelancing and corporate work as complementary avenues, both capable of contributing to Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem if approached with discipline and consistency.
Omobosola Karimat, CEO of Hafrikplay, highlighted professionalism as the differentiator that could position Nigerian talent favourably on the world stage. “Skill gets you noticed, but professionalism keeps you in the room,” she said.
Several attendees who spoke with Uptown Press in an interview said that the fair had sharpened their vision, enabling them to see their individual growth as part of a collective national effort to secure Nigeria’s place in the global digital economy.
