The Akwa Ibom State Government has delivered a stern caution to members of the State Executive Council (EXCO), following what it described as an ongoing disregard for official protocol during the governor’s public engagements.
In a strongly worded memo dated 15 May 2025, the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, expressed the administration’s discontent over the conduct of some EXCO members who have been departing events before the conclusion of the governor’s official appointments.
According to Prince Uwah, Governor Umo Eno has repeatedly observed members of his cabinet walking out of engagements prematurely, often while he is still addressing members of the public or attending to formal duties. The memo criticised the practice as “a breach of protocol” and “entirely unacceptable in all ramifications.”
The statement serves as what the government has described as a final warning, stressing that such behaviour undermines the dignity of the governor’s office. It called on all council members to remain present at official functions until the governor has completed his appointment and departed the venue.
