Doug Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, has addressed swirling rumours of infidelity during his first marriage.
The allegations, which have been gaining traction in conservative media circles, suggest Emhoff had an affair with his children’s nanny, purportedly resulting in a pregnancy.
Emhoff’s statement, released exclusively to CNN, has added fuel to the speculative fire by acknowledging past marital troubles without explicitly denying the affair. “During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side,” Emhoff said.
For some time now, conservative outlets have claimed that Emhoff cheated on his first wife, Kerstin Emhoff, with their children’s nanny. The Daily Mail recently published an exposé citing a close friend of the nanny who reportedly confirmed the affair.
When CNN pressed a spokesperson for the Harris campaign to outright deny the basic facts of the Daily Mail’s story, the spokesperson declined to comment, further intensifying speculation.
Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff met in 2013, five years after his divorce from Kerstin, and married the following year. Harris, who is stepmother to Emhoff’s two children, has had her family life scrutinized in political discussions, particularly after J.D. Vance’s controversial remarks about childless women in leadership positions.
As this story continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how these revelations will affect public perception and the broader political landscape.
