Residents of Oredo Ward 7 in Edo State are witnessing a wave of development as the Member representing Oredo West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Richard Osaro Edosa, rolls out a series of people-focused projects aimed at improving living standards, enhancing infrastructure, and empowering the youth.
The projects, which span critical sectors including water, electricity, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment, have been publicly reported and verified, underscoring what constituents describe as a responsive and results-driven style of representation.
Across the ward, solar-powered infrastructure has taken centre stage in addressing long-standing challenges of water supply and poor lighting. At Iyi Eweka Street, off New Benin, a solar-powered borehole and streetlights have been installed, providing residents with access to clean water and improved security at night. Similar interventions have been extended to several locations, including Community School Road off Upper Lawani, Obaze Street off Ewah Road, Marina Street off Upper Mission Road, and Adesuwa Street, among others.
Additional solar streetlights have been deployed across Upper Lawani Axis, Upper Forestry, and Federal Road areas, as well as around the moat along New Lagos Road near Victory Junction and 2nd Victory Lane, off Victory Road. Eight community leaders’ premises on Iyi Eweka Street have also benefited from the solar lighting initiative, further enhancing safety within the neighbourhood.
In the area of road infrastructure, Hon. Edosa facilitated the tarring of Adesuwa Road, alongside the installation of streetlights to improve accessibility and reduce accidents. His intervention in the education sector includes the reconstruction of the administrative block of Edokpolor Grammar School, creating a more conducive environment for learning and administration.
Healthcare delivery has also received a boost with the facilitation of a Primary Health Care Centre at Upper Mission Road. The facility is expected to improve access to essential medical services for residents, particularly those in underserved communities.
To address electricity challenges, the lawmaker oversaw the repair of a vandalised transformer at Utuyo Street, restoring power supply to homes and businesses that had been in darkness.
Beyond physical infrastructure, Hon. Edosa has invested in human capital development. He sponsored the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration fees for prospective students across Oredo West, including beneficiaries from Ward 7, in a bid to expand access to higher education.
In addition, over 200 youths benefited from a Web Design Training programme at Amena Academy, equipping participants with digital skills to compete in a rapidly evolving job market. Beneficiaries were drawn from Oredo West, including Ward 7, as well as neighbouring Oredo East Constituency.
Economic empowerment initiatives have also formed a key pillar of his interventions. The distribution of grinding machines and generators to constituents, alongside the provision of interest-free loans to traders, artisans, and small business owners, has helped to stimulate local economic activity. Several residents have also benefitted from employment opportunities facilitated through the lawmaker’s office.
Community leaders say the cumulative effect of these projects is already being felt, with improved security, better access to basic services, and enhanced opportunities for economic advancement.
Hon. Edosa reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the momentum, noting that inclusive development remains at the core of his legislative agenda. He emphasised that no part of the constituency, including Oredo Ward 7, would be left behind in the drive to deliver tangible dividends of democracy.
