DSS Alerts Of Imminent Bandit Attack On Abuja-Kaduna Train Service

The Department of State Services (DSS) has revealed that a group of bandit terrorists is actively planning a potentially devastating assault on the Abuja-Kaduna train service in the near future.

Recalling a previous incident, on Monday, March 28, 2022, when terrorists targeted a train traveling from Abuja to Kaduna in Katari village, Kaduna State, and abducted numerous individuals, the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) temporarily suspended operations along the route.

According to a leaked communication authored by the DSS Director of the FCT Command, R.N. Adepemu, the message titled ‘Security Alert: Impending Threat By A Coalition Of Banditry Syndicate To Attack Abuja-Kaduna Train Service Along AKTS Corridor,’ the DSS has issued a warning to train passengers, urging them to exercise heightened vigilance due to the imminent threat.

The DSS notification pointed out the looming danger to the smooth operation of the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS), indicating that a coalition of banditry syndicates is orchestrating an attack with the intention of kidnapping passengers aboard the Abuja-Kaduna train and demanding ransom in the very near future.

The memo emphasized: “Considering the potential threat and the necessity to prevent any potential security breach along the AKTS, it is recommended that the existing security measures be bolstered within and along the route. Additionally, the following counter security measures are advised to be implemented promptly to counteract the impending threat:

  1. Conduct air surveillance patrols; Monitor the rail track closely; Increase military checkpoints and patrols; Intensify police checkpoints and patrols; Conduct security raids in the areas of Byazhin, Jibi, and the Ja forest; Enhance the capabilities of Nigeria Police Mobile Force (NPMF) personnel with walkie talkies for continued train escort services;

“Deploy additional Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel equipped with walkie talkies for escort duties; please note that the content of this communication is classified, and unauthorized disclosure could lead to legal action.

“Establish a crisis response team for swift reactions in the event of an attack; Foster intelligence sharing among all pertinent stakeholders.

“Although the above-mentioned threat has not yet become public knowledge, this development has the potential to escalate concerns regarding the safety of lives and property for stakeholders and commuters utilizing train transportation along the AKTS corridor.”
