On the 24th of February, 2025, the Edo State Government appointed Ivie Charles Idahosa as the new General Manager (GM) of the Edo State Community and Social Development Agency (ECSDA). The appointment was hailed as a significant move to address the social and economic challenges faced by rural communities in the State.
However, nearly a month after her appointment, Idahosa has yet to assume office, raising questions about her commitment to the role and the future of the agency.
Sources within the ECSDA, speaking under the condition of anonymity, expressed surprise when asked about Idahosa’s appointment. “I haven’t heard anything about the new GM. I only saw it on social media,” one staff member said. “No new face has come in to take charge here, and we are all still waiting for any official communication.”
Ivie Charles Idahosa, a native of Ehor in the Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State, is no stranger to leadership. In the 2023 General Elections, she ran for the Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency seat, a race she did not win but which earned her recognition in political circles. Prior to her appointment to ECSDA, she held the position of Principal Manager at Cooper University Hospital, a well-regarded research hospital in New Jersey, USA.
However, despite the significant responsibilities awaiting her in the ECSDA, sources indicate that Idahosa is currently weighing whether to leave her lucrative position in the United States for a far less financially rewarding job in Edo State. This hesitation has not gone unnoticed, with many wondering why she has not yet taken up the mantle of leadership.
One key expectation of Idahosa’s appointment was her potential to bring transformative change to the rural communities of Edo State. The ECSDA has long been tasked with addressing critical issues such as poverty, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of access to essential services in these areas. As GM, Idahosa was expected to spearhead efforts to drive sustainable development and improve the quality of life for rural dwellers.
However, her continued absence has raised doubts among stakeholders about the future direction of the agency. The public has yet to receive any official statement from the Edo State Government regarding the delay in her assumption of office. As of now, the government has remained silent on the matter, leaving many to speculate about the reasons behind the prolonged wait.
In addition to the lack of clarity surrounding Idahosa’s appointment, there are concerns about the broader implications for the governance of Edo State. Critics argue that such delays in leadership transitions can undermine the efficiency and effectiveness of public institutions, especially one tasked with addressing critical issues in rural communities.
