Ahead of the governorship election billed for September 21, the governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki on Tuesday announced the constitution of a transition committee to ensure a smooth handover to the next administration in the State.
Mr Godwin Obaseki made the announcement while receiving an award of exceptional courage in leadership from Tell Magazine.
Presented by the President and Chief Executive Officer, Tell Communications Limited, Mr. Nosa Igiebor on behalf of the weekly magazine. The award of being a good governor focused on good governance underscored the giant strides made by the governor in areas of investment in education, technology and human capital development.
“We don’t normally give awards out. We don’t run an industry where we give award, but we have a policy that says that both private and public sector, when we identify individuals that are making a difference in a fundamental way. We have obligation to recognise such individuals.” He said.
On his part, governor Obaseki described Tell magazine as one media platform which epitomizes courage in leadership, nothing that the award is coming at an auspicious time of uncertainties when Nigerians need fearless leaders to take the nation out of the woods.
Obaseki said: “As a leader, if you continue to scream and shout about what you have done, then you really haven’t done much because it is people who experience the effect of what you have done that should really be telling others about what you have done. This is the time we need leaders to be fearless.”
He thereafter announced plans for a smooth take-over of the next administration in the State.
“This week, I am putting in place my transition team that will aggregate and document for the next administration all our achievements and all our projects.”
