The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has raised concerns over purported protests planned for this week, claiming these demonstrations are being instigated by certain individuals and elements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with the intention of destabilising the State.

In a statement released to Uptown Press NIGERIA, the state APC chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, revealed that credible intelligence had pointed to the orchestration of these protests by forces with ulterior motives, aimed at disrupting the peace and security of the State.

Tenebe stated, “We have credible information that the protests set for this week are not motivated by the genuine concerns of Edo citizens. Rather, they are being sponsored by some members of the PDP, who seek to stir discord and disturb the progress made under the leadership of Governor Okpebholo.”

The APC chairman reiterated that the state governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, respects citizens’ right to peaceful assembly as guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution. However, he expressed concerns that misinformation and deliberate falsehoods were being spread to incite unrest and cause a breakdown in law and order.

“We have observed a pattern of deceit and misrepresentation surrounding these protests, suggesting the aim is not to engage in constructive dialogue but to undermine the achievements of this administration,” Tenebe added.

The party has allegedly identified specific individuals and groups believed to be behind these efforts, which it claims are intended to stoke tensions in the state. The APC, while acknowledging that legitimate concerns may exist, emphasised that these should be raised through proper channels rather than through disruptive protests.

The party also issued a call for vigilance among the citizens, urging them to distance themselves from any involvement in these protests. “We stand ready to address any legitimate grievances through dialogue and proper engagement. However, we will not allow anyone to destabilise our state for selfish reasons,” said Tenebe.

The statement also assured residents that the Okpebholo administration was fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. Law enforcement agencies have been put on high alert and are prepared to take necessary actions to prevent any disruptions.

The APC further called on community leaders, parents, and guardians to discourage youths from participating in these protests, warning that those behind the unrest sought only to use them as tools in their political games.

In closing, the APC reiterated its commitment to supporting the Okpebholo administration’s vision of good governance, sustainable development, and peace across Edo State. The party urged citizens to remain calm, continue with their daily lives, and support efforts to build a stronger, more prosperous Edo.
