The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, has called for heightened vigilance as the State’s Governorship Tribunal case continues, emphasising the importance of safeguarding democratic principles and the rule of law.
In a statement issued to Uptown Press NG on Friday, Tenebe expressed deep concern about the on-going legal proceedings, which he believes have far-reaching implications for the integrity of Edo’s democracy and the rights of its citizens.
“We urge all party members and the public at large to stay alert and closely monitor the developments in this tribunal case,” Tenebe said. “It is crucial that we prevent the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, from manipulating the process in any way.”
The APC Chairman went on to accuse Ighodalo and his supporters of engaging in desperate tactics, citing an alleged attempt on Wednesday to disrupt tribunal proceedings with the aid of thugs. “After their failed attempt to destabilise the tribunal, we can no longer trust that they will refrain from further undermining the process,” Tenebe added, calling for vigilance in the face of such actions.
The statement also included a plea to the Judiciary to uphold its commitment to impartiality and fairness. “We call on the judiciary to treat all parties involved with equity, ensuring that justice is served without bias,” Tenebe said. “It is crucial that all individuals involved in this case conduct themselves with the utmost respect for the legal process.”
Furthermore, Tenebe reiterated the APC’s unwavering support for Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and vowed to take every necessary action to protect the interests of the party and its candidate.
As the tribunal case continues, the APC remains focused on ensuring that the democratic rights of its supporters are defended and that the electoral process is not compromised by any form of misconduct.
