Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 42-year-old man in possession of firearms and live ammunition during a highway patrol along the notorious “Evil Forest” axis of the Benin-Lagos Road.
The suspect, identified as Ogbole Henry of Ewu, Esan Central Local Government Area, was apprehended on 7 September at about 11:30 a.m. by the Safer Highway Patrol Team led by ASP Enenche Christopher.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesman, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the team intercepted a commercial bus travelling from Lagos to Benin. A search revealed Henry’s possession of two locally fabricated pistols, 18 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and 10 live cartridges. Other passengers were profiled and released to continue their journey.
Further investigations uncovered a pump-action shotgun and a Lexus RX 330 vehicle linked to the suspect. Police said Henry has since been charged to court, while manhunt operations are underway to arrest other members of his criminal network.
Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, vowed to sustain intelligence-led operations across the state, warning that “criminally minded individuals will find no safe haven in Edo”. He also urged transporters to exercise vigilance to avoid aiding criminals by carrying dangerous passengers.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, pledging relentless efforts to stamp out violent crime in the State.
