Edo State House of Assembly has impeached the Deputy governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu over allegations of disclosure of Official secrets
The Speaker Rt. Hon. Blessing Sheriff Aigbebaku said after due consideration of the report by the seven-man committee that was constituted to investigate matters relating to gross misconduct by the Deputy Governor, the committee found him complicit, and the only option left was to put their recommendation to vote.
Rt.Hon. Blessing further stated that after members present at the plenary voted, eighteen(18) members voted in favor of the impeachment of the embattled deputy governor, which is equal to a two-thirds majority needed, while one voted against the impeachment.
He further, said that having gotten a two-thirds majority vote required for impeachment, as stated in section 188 subsection 9 of the Nigeria constitution, the deputy governor has been impeached in line with the findings of the seven-man committee with regards to prove, that he disclosed Official secrets of the State.
Also at plenary, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Agbebaku announced to the House that, FERMA should be reinvited to the House, to explain why, they have failed to carry out the palliative repairs they promised at the failed portion on the Benin Auchi road.
The House plenary was thereafter adjourned to 29th April 2024.
