As Nigeria marks its annual Democracy Day, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief Bisi Idaomi, has lauded the enduring resilience of Nigerians in upholding democratic values.
In a statement titled “Celebrating Nigeria’s Indomitable Democratic Spirit: A Tribute to Liberty”, Chief Idaomi extended warm congratulations to the people of Nigeria, describing them as “resilient and indomitable.” She said the day serves as a powerful reminder of the nation’s hard-won democratic journey and the sacrifices made by patriots who envisioned a free and just society.
“Democracy Day is not merely a commemoration of our political evolution but a celebration of the fundamental principles of liberty, justice, and equality that underpin our national ethos,” she stated.
Reflecting on the progress made, Chief Idaomi called on Nigerians to continue supporting the government’s efforts to rebuild the economy and drive sustainable development. She emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in deepening democratic values and ensuring that governance serves the needs of all citizens.
The Commissioner also praised the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo for its commitment to tackling cultism, enhancing infrastructure, and promoting economic growth in Edo State. She commended the APC-led government for “prioritising the safety and prosperity of the people.”
Nigeria’s Democracy Day is celebrated annually on 12 June to honour the nation’s return to civilian rule and to commemorate the democratic aspirations of its people.
