The Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady in Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has commended the founder of the Lady Mechanic Initiative, Engr. Sandra Aguebor, MFR, for her sustained commitment to empowering women through hands-on vocational training in mechanical engineering and technology.
Mrs. Anani made the remarks during a visit to the Lady Mechanic workshop located in the Government Reservation Area (GRA) of Benin City, where she lauded Aguebor for her vision, determination, and remarkable strides in supporting young women to attain economic independence.
“The dedication and hard work have paid off, and I’m thrilled to see the impact. Thank you for being a role model and showing what can be achieved with determination and perseverance,” Anani stated.
She reaffirmed the Edo State Government’s support for programmes that promote self-reliance among women and girls, stressing that the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo remains committed to creating opportunities that elevate women across the state.
“This programme is a clear demonstration of the power of collaboration and vision. We are proud of what you have accomplished,” she added.
Highlighting the tangible outcomes of the initiative, Mrs. Anani disclosed that 50 young women have successfully completed training in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion — a modern, eco-friendly skill that addresses both economic empowerment and environmental sustainability.
Founder of the Lady Mechanic Initiative, Engr. Sandra Aguebor, MFR, expressed gratitude for the support and outlined the mission of the initiative, which is to equip women with marketable skills in mechanics and alternative energy conversion, reducing their vulnerability to poverty and social vices.
She also announced that the graduation ceremony for the newly trained 50 beneficiaries will hold on Friday, 4 July 2025, at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City.
Founded in Lagos, the Lady Mechanic Initiative has now expanded its operations to 20 States across Nigeria, providing thousands of women and girls with the opportunity to learn, earn, and contribute meaningfully to society.
