The Edo State Government has firmly denied allegations that some local government workers in the state are being owed salaries, dismissing the claims as baseless and misleading.
In a statement issued in Benin City, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Fred Itua, described the rumours as false and deliberately spread by those seeking to tarnish the administration’s achievements.
He urged the public to disregard such misinformation, which he attributed to detractors envious of the strides made by Governor Monday Okpebholo’s government since taking office in November 2024.
Reaffirming the administration’s dedication to workers’ welfare, Mr Itua assured that no government worker—local council staff included—has experienced salary delays. He confirmed that all payments, including those for January 2025, had been made on time.
“The state government remains committed to the prompt payment of salaries to all local government employees, despite financial challenges stemming from the ongoing legal disputes with former council chairmen,” he stated.
He further praised Governor Okpebholo’s proactive leadership in ensuring that all State workers receive their wages without disruption, highlighting it as a testament to the government’s dedication to staff well-being.
