Hon. Dr Richard Osaro Edosa, member representing Oredo West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, has commissioned a fully reconstructed and furnished block of six classrooms, two offices, and a functional borehole at Oza Primary School, located in Ward 10, Oredo Local Government Area.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the school premises, was attended by government officials, community leaders, educators, and parents, and was inaugurated by Mrs Anani Okpebholo, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady. She commended Hon. Edosa for his unwavering commitment to education and access to clean water in the community.
“It’s an honour to have you,” Mrs Okpebholo said. “Oredo West is blessed to have a young man full of passion for his people. In such a short time, he has achieved so much — notably in the areas of water and education. Water is life, and education is the bedrock of any successful community.”
She noted that the project aligned with the developmental agenda of the current administration under the leadership of Distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo and Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa. “This administration is about enhancing the lives of Edo people and delivering the dividends of democracy to every resident, both indigenes and non-indigenes alike,” she added.
Speaking to the head teacher and staff, Mrs Okpebholo praised their selfless dedication: “For your act of buying water for the children before now, thank you. Teachers are often underappreciated, but your reward is not only in heaven — it is here on earth.”
In his remarks, Hon. Dr Richard Edosa expressed gratitude for the successful completion of the project and thanked Mrs Okpebholo for attending the event despite her busy schedule.
“This is a project I conceived as part of my tripod agenda — education, health, and security,” Hon. Edosa explained. “As a lecturer of 15 years at the University of Benin and a medical doctor with over two decades of experience, I understand the importance of education and health to any society.”
He lamented the deplorable learning conditions in some public schools, which he described as the driving force behind his intervention.
“When I visited this school, some classrooms were used as toilets, and pupils sat on the floor or blocks to learn, sometimes under leaking roofs. How can a child learn in such an environment?
He further stressed that the reconstructed classrooms and the provision of clean, potable water were part of efforts to give every child in his constituency the right to a safe and conducive learning environment.
“This borehole is now functional. Our children no longer need to suffer for water. They now have a clean environment to learn and grow,” he said.
Hon. Edosa reiterated that the project fulfilled his campaign promises and reflected his enduring commitment to his constituency. “By the grace of God, when I say something, I do it,” he said, adding that the delivery of basic education in a conducive environment is essential to nation-building.
The initiative was well-received by stakeholders in the community. APC Chairman of Oredo Ward 10, Mr Osayande Omosigho, praised the lawmaker’s developmental strides.
“In less than two years, he has done a lot for us — from classroom rehabilitation to boreholes and street lighting. We pray that God strengthens him to continue the good work,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, Mrs Tom Edna, Headmistress of Oza Primary School, described the intervention as timely and transformative.
“Before now, we were suffering,” she said. “But since Hon. Edosa refurbished the borehole and reconstructed the classrooms, everything has changed. The children now have water, and their environment is clean. We are truly grateful.”
The event concluded with cheers from pupils and community members, who lauded the project as a beacon of hope for public education in the area.
