The newly appointed Caretaker Committee of the Edo State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has expressed its confidence in the National Chairman of the party, Barrister Julius Abure. This affirmation was made during a press conference in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, by the committee members led by Chairman Rt. Hon. (Mrs) Elizabeth Ativie.
They were responding to the recent invasion of the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
According to Hon. Ativie said, “The invaders were sponsored by some person who do not wish the party well, and those protesters were hired to undermine the Labour Party as they were rented from nearby market in Abuja.”
She noted, “The National Chairman of the party, Barrister Julius Abure, is a jolly good fellow who has moved the party to an enviable height. Under his leadership in the party, we now have a Governor, National and State Assembly members. Such person should be well commended and congratulated.”
The Ex-Edo Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Ativie added that those trying to divide Labour Party should have a rethink and work for the party to move forward in Nigeria. They should give peace a chance and allow the party to win more laurels ahead of any forthcoming election in the country.
“We, the leaders and members of the Labour Party in Edo State headed by my humble self, Rt. Hon. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Ativie are strongly behind Barrister Julius Abure, our indefatigable, articulate and vibrant National Chairman.
“Edo State LP is fully ready to prosecute the upcoming Governorship Election which has Barr. Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata as our Governorship candidate. We hope to emerge victorious in the election. That is our wish now.
“I hereby appeal to all members of the Labour Party to rally round our candidate towards ensuring victory in the coming election in Edo State come 21 September, 2024,” she added.
