The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Edo State Chapter has named the lounge at the Doctors House at Ugbowo Benin-City after the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), Professor Sylvanus Akhalufoh Okogbenin.
The naming was done during the 2022 Annual General Meeting by Dr Harrison Omokhua, Chairman, NMA Edo State Chapter. He said the honour was bestowed on Prof. Okogbenin because of his contributions to the health sector in particular and humanity in general.
According to him: “Over the years, Prof. Okogbenin has contributed immensely to the development of the Nigeria Health Sector by championing the advancement of medicine in the area of Viral Hemorrhagic Fever and other emerging pathogens. He is a kind leader who has promoted Human Capital Development and these are some of the reasons the present Executive led by me has decided to name the Doctors Lounge as Professor Sylvanus Okogbenin Doctors Lounge” he said.
Reacting to the development, the CMD expressed gratitude to God and the NMA, Edo State Chapter for finding him worthy of such rear privilege of immortalizing him by naming the Doctors Lounge after him. He promised to continue to engage and promote activities that will benefit mankind. The development was well applauded by management and staff of ISTH.
