A suspected initiation into the Aye confraternity in Auchi, Edo North, turned fatal over the weekend as a young boy, identified only as Prosper, lost his life during the process.

The incident occurred in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, reportedly at a secret location near Auchi Polytechnic, where a group of Aye cult members had gathered to initiate new recruits.

According to sources within the Aye group who spoke to Naija Confra under strict anonymity, Prosper had expressed interest in joining the cult and approached a family member, Cosmos (surname withheld), believed to be affiliated with the group. Although Cosmos has denied membership to police authorities, sources claim he facilitated Prosper’s connection to the initiators after learning of an ongoing induction in Auchi.

Cosmos did not attend the initiation himself but handed over Prosper to other cult members. During the ritual, however, events took a tragic turn. Prosper and another unidentified individual reportedly died in the course of the activities. While some accounts claim one of the deceased was buried at the site, others alleged the body was simply abandoned.

Because of Cosmos’ known link to Prosper, cult members feared his disappearance might attract attention. To cover their tracks, they allegedly informed Cosmos that the boy had merely fainted due to drugs taken prior to the initiation. It was only later that he discovered Prosper had, in fact, died.

As at the time of filing this report, the Edo State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
