Edo Police arrest man for hacking his brother to death

A 34-year-old man has been apprehended for allegedly murdering his elder brother following a heated argument on Tuesday at Uzalla community in Edo State.

According to the Edo State police command, the victim, identified as 38-year-old Friday Omokaro, sustained fatal injuries during the altercation, which escalated into violence. Police spokesperson CSP Moses Joel Yamu disclosed details of the incident in a statement to Uptown Press Nigeria, revealing that at approximately 3:30 pm, officers and local vigilantes responded to reports of the murder.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered Omokaro’s body and promptly transported him to a nearby medical facility, where he was pronounced dead. The police have also recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the attack—a cutlass.

Initial investigations indicated that a misunderstanding between the two brothers prompted the confrontation that ended tragically. Iyayi Omokaro, the younger brother, has since been taken into custody and is undergoing further investigation. He has reportedly confessed to the crime and is expected to face formal charges in court soon.

The police urged residents to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts in order to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
