In a bid to strengthen community policing and curb the spread of cultism and related vices in Edo State, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has embarked on strategic visits to major tertiary institutions across the State.
On Friday, 2 May, CP Agbonika paid courtesy visits to the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and Benson Idahosa University (BIU), where he held discussions with the Vice Chancellors, management staff, and student leaders. The engagements focused on fostering closer collaboration between the police and educational institutions to create safer and more inclusive learning environments.
The Commissioner emphasised the vital role of community involvement in policing, especially in addressing the growing threat of cultism and youth-related crimes. He called on institutions to work hand-in-hand with security agencies to safeguard students and academic communities.
According to a statement released to Uptown Press Nigeria by the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the meetings concluded with a shared commitment to joint action. “There was a unanimous agreement that all stakeholders must unite to protect our campuses and the broader society,” the statement read.
CP Agbonika is expected to extend similar visits to other institutions, including Lucky Igbinedion University in Okada, Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, and Edo State University in Iyamho.
The initiative forms part of a broader campaign by the Edo State Police Command to deepen community engagement and promote proactive security measures across the State.
