Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have thwarted two separate kidnap attempts, rescuing victims unhurt in swift operations along the Benin–Lagos expressway and in Ekpoma.
In the early hours of Saturday, 13th September, at about 2:30 a.m., men of the Okada Division led by CSP Opatoyinbo John responded to a distress call at Morgan and Isiuwa slope on the busy expressway. Armed hoodlums had blocked the highway with logs and opened fire in a bid to abduct the occupants of a Toyota Sienna vehicle with registration number KUJ 342 CU (Abuja).
The vehicle, driven by 51-year-old Nana Aghogho and conveying fingerling fish from Lagos to Akwa Ibom, came under attack alongside passengers Oseghale Mathias, 40, and John Edobor, 24. Police operatives engaged the gunmen in a fierce exchange, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee into the bush. The driver and his passengers were rescued unharmed, while the barricades were swiftly cleared to restore traffic flow.
In a related breakthrough, officers of the Ekpoma Divisional Headquarters, led by SP Nelson Igbinoba, rescued a female victim, Elohor Osifoh, who had been abducted on 10th September. Following days of relentless bush combing, she was reunited with her family.
Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, praised the gallantry and prompt response of the operatives, assuring Edo residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to flush out criminals. He urged road users to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements for immediate police action.
