The Edo State Police Command has restated its commitment to rescuing three seminarians abducted during the 11 July attack on Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary, Ivianokpodi-Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area.
Gunmen had stormed the institution, killing a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) before whisking away the students.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, said the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, is personally leading rescue operations. Tactical teams, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, have been deployed, while a tactical division has been established in Ivieukwa community to bolster security and intelligence gathering in the area.
“The Command is working closely with security experts and sister agencies, deploying advanced technical intelligence and coordinated operations to ensure the safe return of the abducted seminarians,” Yamu stated.
He acknowledged the circulation of a viral video showing the captives, urging the public to remain calm. “We deeply sympathise with the families during this difficult time and commend their patience and cooperation with security agencies. We wish to assure the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, parents, guardians and the general public that no stone will be left unturned in our resolve to bring the boys back safely,” he said.
The police appealed for public support while pledging to provide updates as operations progress, without compromising the safety of the abducted students.
