Edo Queens have continued their impressive start to the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) season, securing a second consecutive win with a 2-1 victory over Heartland Queens on Matchday Two.

The encounter, held in front of a spirited crowd, saw the visitors dominate large stretches of the match, showcasing both their offensive firepower and solid defensive organisation.

Goodness Osigwe was the standout performer for Edo Queens, scoring both goals to guide her side to victory. The forward opened the scoring in the 40th minute, giving the visitors a narrow 1-0 lead at the break. Just after the restart, Heartland Queens responded quickly with a well-taken goal from Monica Matthew in the 48th minute, levelling the score and giving the home side renewed hope.

However, Osigwe’s second goal in the 70th minute quelled any chance of a Heartland comeback, as her clinical strike ensured the three points for Edo Queens. The home team fought valiantly but were ultimately unable to break down the visitors’ well-drilled defence.

Despite Matthew’s efforts, which briefly revived the game, the defeat leaves Heartland Queens with back-to-back losses, while Edo Queens’ dominant start to the season continues. With two wins from two matches, the reigning champions are sending a strong signal to the rest of the league. As they sit at the top of the table, the question remains: who will be able to halt their early momentum?
