BENIN CITY — The Senator representing Edo South Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Neda Imasuen, has strongly condemned the recent surge in cult-related violence across Edo State, describing the trend as “senseless and deeply troubling”.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Senator Imasuen expressed concern over the spate of killings linked to cult clashes, urging all those involved to immediately lay down their arms and embrace peace.
“We, the people of Edo South Senatorial District, are appalled by the recent surge in cult-related violence that has claimed innocent lives,” he said. “As a leader, I strongly condemn these senseless killings and urge all parties involved to cease hostilities immediately.”
Senator Imasuen particularly addressed the youth in his district, calling on them to reject the path of violence and instead work towards a united and progressive society.
“To the youth of Edo South, I emphasise the importance of unity, peace, and progress over violence and cultism. Let us work together to build a brighter future for ourselves and our communities,” he appealed.
He assured residents that government and security agencies are working tirelessly to quell the violence and restore normalcy. He also called on the public to support the efforts of law enforcement by providing useful information that could aid ongoing investigations.
“I encourage citizens to cooperate with law enforcement and provide valuable intelligence to bring perpetrators to justice. Together, we can restore peace and ensure Edo South remains a safe haven for all,” the senator stated.
The call comes amid heightened concerns from civil society and local communities over the growing insecurity and loss of lives in parts of Edo South due to cult-related attacks.
