…Says Nigerian Jobs Must Not Be Outsourced to Expatriates

Senator Neda Imasuen, who represents Edo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing policies that promote job creation and economic empowerment for Nigerian youths.
Speaking on Wednesday in his capacity as a member of the Senate Committee on Local Content, the senator decried the persistent outsourcing of jobs to foreign expatriates at the expense of qualified Nigerian professionals.
“At today’s committee meeting, we reviewed several contracts awarded to companies such as North Island Gas Company and examined their level of compliance with Nigeria’s local content laws,” Imasuen said.
The lawmaker noted that the committee identified key challenges undermining the country’s local content policy, including delayed project deployment, underinvestment in workforce training, weak enforcement of local sourcing, and the limited involvement of Nigerians in sectors where local capacity is already available.
He stressed the need for stringent oversight, warning that companies and government agencies found to be in breach of local content provisions would be sanctioned.
“We cannot continue to complain about unemployment when jobs meant for Nigerians are being outsourced to expatriates,” he said. “If we have capable hands at home, they must be given the opportunity. Full stop.”

His statement comes amidst growing concerns over Nigeria’s soaring youth unemployment rate and the perceived lack of political will to enforce local content regulations in critical sectors such as oil and gas, construction, and telecommunications.
