There was jubilation in Orhionmwon Local Government on Monday as Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South, officially flagged off the construction of the two-kilometre Irohkin–Abudu road, linking Evbomede 1 and 2 and Iguiya communities in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.

The project, expected to be completed by December 2025, is designed to ease transportation, enhance access to markets, and boost economic activities in the agrarian community.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Senator Imasuen, who chairs the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, said the road was a deliberate intervention to tackle rural neglect. The road is expected to cover a stretch from Irokhin to Ogan communities, which is over three kilometres.

“The reason we brought this project to the community is because of the apparent neglect of our rural areas. Rural-city migration happens largely because development does not reach our people. This road will change that story,” he said.

He added that the project would serve farmers in particular, helping them move produce from farms to urban markets, while also strengthening communal ties. “This is just the beginning. By the grace of God, we will do more to ensure our rural populace enjoys some measure of comfort like those in the cities,” he assured.

Senator Imasuen emphasized that the road would be delivered on schedule. “The timeframe is clear. The expected delivery is December, and I do not see why it should extend beyond that,” he stated confidently.

“This project will be of immense benefit to the community. It will aid commerce, strengthen livelihoods, and bring hope. We are grateful to our senator, and we assure him of our continuous support,” Patrick said.

Also speaking, the Oliha of Oheze clan, Chief Amadin Nicholas Ekhator, stated, “We are very happy for this project. With this, the senator is encouraging us to do more farming for more sales and improvement of our standard of living.”
