The Edo State Government has taken a significant step towards driving economic growth and sustainability by engaging with prospective investors in the mining and energy sectors.
The Ministry of Mining and Energy, under the guidance of the State Government, hosted a team of potential investors in Benin City to discuss opportunities for collaboration in renewable energy.
Led by Mr. David Ashaolu, Managing Director of E5 Energy Service Limited, the delegation explored plans to establish two hydropower plants in Edo State. The proposed plants, located at the Ikpoba River Dam and Ojirami Dam, are expected to generate between 10 to 50 megawatts of power each, providing renewable and sustainable energy to the region. The project aligns with the State Government’s commitment to harnessing its abundant natural resources while promoting environmental sustainability.
Edo State’s representatives at the meeting included the Special Adviser to the Governor on Investment and Revenue, Mr. Kizito Okpebholo, and key officials from various ministries, including Mrs. Ese Martina Omoruyi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Mining and Energy, Mr. Joseph Nyamali, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, and Mrs. Adegboyega Toyin, Managing Director of the Urban Water Corporation.
Mrs. Omoruyi, who delivered the welcome address, highlighted Edo State’s openness to partnerships and its ongoing efforts to foster a business-friendly environment. She underscored the State’s vast natural resource potential and the need for strategic partnerships to unlock these opportunities, which would benefit both investors and the local communities.
During the discussions, the investors were assured of the State Government’s support, including access to detailed data and resources. Mrs. Omoruyi pointed out that extensive research and exploration had been conducted in the mining sector in the previous year. She also noted that the State Government had secured the right to control electricity supply within Edo, demonstrating the progressive nature of the Ministry and its commitment to the sector’s development.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with all parties expressing excitement about the potential for the renewable energy initiative to boost the State’s economy and create sustainable power solutions for the region.
This initiative marks a pivotal moment in the Edo State Government’s efforts to make the State a leading hub for investment and sustainable economic growth, positioning it as a model for the rest of the country.
