The Edo State Government has ordered a halt to the proposed turbaning ceremony and the appointment of various Chiefs and Village Heads by Umoru Inusa Umaru of South Ibie, Etsako West Local Government.
A statement released to Uptown Press NG on Thursday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, Igbéraese George, outlined that the decision follows security concerns raised by the Ministry.
The directive, which was communicated to the Commissioner of Police and the State Security Service (SSS), mandates that any further actions taken by Umoru Inusa Umaru in his purported role as Aidenogie of South Ibie are suspended until further clearance is obtained from the appropriate authorities.
The statement reads: “I am directed to inform you that, based on the security report in the Ministry’s possession, the proposed turbaning ceremony and appointment of various Chiefs and Village Heads by Umoru Inusa Umaru are to be immediately put on hold. This includes any actions taken in his capacity as the supposed Aidenogie of South Ibie, pending clearance from the relevant quarters.”
Additionally, the statement requests that Umoru Inusa Umaru attend a meeting at the Ministry on Monday, 27th January 2025, at 11:00 AM.
The Ministry called for strict adherence to this directive, ensuring that the order is fully complied with.
