Edo State House of Assembly, Move To End Suspected Cult Killings in the State

Edo State House of Assembly has called on the State government and all the security agencies to wade into the spate of wanton killing by cult groups in parts of the State to halt the ugly trend.

The House made the call today 11th, July 2023 at the plenary while concluding the debate in a matter of urgent public importance bordering on the State, raised by Hon. Frank Omosigho member representing Oredo East Constituency.

Speaker, of the House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku observed that the killings which he described as senseless started in Auchi, from where it spread to other parts of the State, and called on relevant authorities to immediately deploy their security apparatus to action to stern the tide.

Moving the motion earlier, Hon. Omosigho said about seven(7) young men have been gruesomely murdered in different parts of the State with one killed while worshiping in a church at Amagba in his constituency on Sunday.

Other Members including Hon. Charity Aiguobaruekhian of Ovia North East, Hon. Nicholas Asonsere of Ikpoba Okha, Hon. Bright Iyamu of Orhionwon South constituency, Hon. Lecky Mustapha of Estako West(1) and Hon. Kingsley Ugabi of Estako East all supported the call for action to stop the killings, saying if left unattended to it is capable of negatively impacting on the economy of the State.

Also today, the House received the name of a nominee for the position of Chief Judge of the State from Governor Godwin Obaseki for confirmation.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku referred the nominee to Committee on Rules and Business and Judiciary.

The plenary was thereafter adjourned to 12th July 2023, after an adjournment motion moved by Hon. Eric Okaka and seconded by Hon. Osawaru Natasha.
