Tension gripped Ososo and neighbouring Makeke communities in Akoko Edo Local Government Area on Sunday after a secondary school teacher and a nurse’s daughter were abducted in a daring night-time operation, even as police confirmed the arrest of one suspected kidnapper.
The teacher, identified as Mr Samuel Ilesanmi of Ososo Comprehensive High School, was reportedly seized on Sunday night along the Makeke axis at about 8:00 pm.
The incident took an alarming turn on Monday when one of the suspected kidnappers linked to Mr Ilesanmi’s abduction was apprehended and is currently being held at the Ososo Police Station, according to local sources.
Residents said the abduction occurred within the hospital premises, describing it as a direct assault on a place meant to provide care and safety. The attack has heightened anxiety among health workers and patients, with many questioning security arrangements at public facilities.
Further details obtained by this online newspaper indicate that soldiers later picked up a local blogger, Ososogist Love, a few hours after he posted an alert on social media announcing the confirmed kidnapping of the Ososo-based teacher. The circumstances surrounding his arrest remain unclear as of the time of filing this report.
As at press time, the Edo State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incidents, leaving residents anxiously awaiting clarity on the fate of the abducted victims and the next steps by security agencies.
Meanwhile, community leaders have called for increased security presence in Ososo and Makeke, urging authorities to act swiftly to rescue the victims and restore calm to the troubled area.
