Calm is gradually returning to troubled communities in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State following a decisive intervention by the Nigeria Police Force, which has led to the recovery of weapons and the arrest of suspected criminal elements.
The Uselu and Ahor communities, popularly referred to as “Uselu N’Ahor,” had been gripped by violent communal clashes that forced residents to flee their homes amid reports of attacks and destruction of property.
However, a swift security response ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has restored a measure of stability, with displaced residents now beginning to return.
According to a statement issued by the Edo State Police Command, tactical teams were deployed to the affected axis on February 18, 2026, following credible intelligence on the activities of armed groups fueling the crisis.
Further details obtained by this online newspaper reveal that the operation, driven by enhanced intelligence gathering and coordinated surveillance, led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Jabir Saleh, Musa Lawal (alias Gambo), Gaddafi Iliyasu and Salau Haliru.
During the raid, operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles and two magazines loaded with 33 rounds of live ammunition, a breakthrough the Command described as a major step towards dismantling criminal networks in the area.
Police said the operation involved a thorough sweep of identified flashpoints and hideouts, supervised by the Divisional Police Officer, which significantly weakened the capacity of the perpetrators.
The suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries.
The Police Commissioner has urged residents who fled the violence to return to their homes and resume lawful activities, assuring them that adequate security measures have been put in place to safeguard lives and property.
He also issued a stern warning to troublemakers, stressing that the Command will not tolerate any form of violence or criminality in the State.
“The Command remains committed to sustained intelligence-driven operations to ensure lasting peace across Edo State,” the statement added.
Residents have begun trickling back into the once-deserted communities, signalling a cautious return to normalcy after weeks of tension.
