The Edo State University Uzairue in Edo State on Thursday matriculated a total of 1,245 students for the 2023/2024 academic session, according to the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor.
The matriculation ceremony was held at the Aliko Dangote Auditorium, and it was the ninth of its kind in the university’s history.
During the ceremony, Prof. Aluyor highlighted the university’s impressive growth since its establishment in 2016. The institution has expanded from three faculties and eight departments to nine faculties and over 30 departments, including postgraduate programmes such as PGD, Masters, MBA, MPA, MPIL, and PhD across different faculties.
Prof. Aluyor also noted that the university’s academic calendar has been uninterrupted, which is a significant achievement. Additionally, he emphasized the establishment of the Edo state University teaching hospital, which is a major milestone for the university.
The Vice Chancellor proudly mentioned that Edo State University Uzairue is ranked as the best university in the south-south geopolitical zone, the second-best state university in the country, and the 10th best university in Nigeria, according to the National University Commission’s Ranking in 2022. This is a testament to the university’s commitment to providing quality education to its students and contributing to the development of the country.
Prof Aluyor Emmanuel said “Edo State University is the 1st in West Africa to adopt the CANVAS learning Management System, used by over 70% of Ivy league Universities globally”
“First to acquire the Anatomage table and low and high fidelity manikins (simmans 3g), which enables the simulation of different scenarios for the training of Medical and Nursing students.
“The university is a full member of the Association of African universities (AAU) and the international Association of Universities Member (IAU)
“Edo State University Uzairue has well equipped science laboratories, fully equipped mass communication studio and temperature controlled lecture halls equipped with smartboards and projectors. Ensure hostels for student accommodation and many more others not mentioned here”

The university, in partnership with the Edo state government is devoted to consistently provide world class teaching and research facilities.”
Parents and other well-wishers were in attendance and the students were happy to a part of the great institution. They also thanked university management for admitting them.
