The Educated Elites of South Ibie, a prominent community within Etsako West Local Government Area in Edo State, have officially distanced themselves from a controversial open letter purportedly issued by Sulaiman Muhammad Sani, the Secretary to Umoru Inusa Umoru.
The letter, which was addressed to the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo, has caused confusion and controversy in the community.
In a statement released on Sunday to Uptown Press NG by prominent Public Policy Analyst, Mr. Momodu Buhari, the group asserted their unequivocal position on the matter. The Educated Elites categorically rejected any affiliation with the letter, stating that they are law-abiding citizens who respect and understand the recent directive from the State Ministry of Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The directive, which was communicated to Umoru Inusa Umoru, specifically called for the suspension of any plans to appoint village Chiefs or conduct related ceremonies in the region. The group expressed their full commitment to adhering to the directive, which they see as a necessary measure for maintaining peace and order in their community.
In their statement, the Educated Elites of South Ibie also addressed the claims made by Sulaiman Muhammad Sani and his so-called “Concerned Indigenes of South Ibie,” labelling the letter as politically motivated. They emphasised that the Edo State Government’s decision was not influenced by political interests and should not be painted in such a light.
The statement reads in part:
“On behalf of the Educated Elites of South Ibie, we wish to state categorically that we, the Educated Elites of South Ibie, disassociate ourselves from an open letter written by the Secretary to the purported Aidonogie, Umoru Inusa Umoru, to the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
“We are known as respecters of the law and we fully understand the content of the message from the Ministry of Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs. We are prepared to obey the directive as instructed by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, for the purpose of peace in our dear community.
“We also want to take this opportunity to disabuse the minds of the purported Secretary and his non-existent group, ‘Concerned Indigenes of South Ibie’, that the decision of the Edo State Government was not politically motivated, and we implore them to stop attributing political colouration to it.
“We once again express our unwavering commitment to the leadership style of His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo.”
The Educated Elites of South Ibie have reiterated their desire for peace and unity within the community, aligning themselves with the lawful instructions from the Edo State Ministry of Local Government.
