The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has explained why it has yet to arraign former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in court.
According to the anti-graft agency, El-Rufai is still under investigation, and filing charges before concluding the probe would be premature. A source close to the commission said the case remains ongoing, stressing that the EFCC must complete its work and assemble sufficient evidence before moving to prosecution.
The development comes amid multiple allegations linked to the former governor’s tenure. Investigations by anti-corruption agencies were triggered by a Kaduna State House of Assembly report that accused his administration of financial infractions and recommended further probes.
El-Rufai has consistently denied wrongdoing, describing the allegations against him as politically motivated and maintaining that loans obtained during his administration were properly utilised.
Meanwhile, security agencies are also pursuing separate matters, including cybercrime allegations related to the alleged interception of communications involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
The EFCC insists that due process will be followed and that any court action will come only after investigations are fully concluded.
