The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has congratulated Abiola Olajumoke for winning a gold medal at the maiden Yenagoa City Street-to-Street Hardcore Powerlifting Competition held in Bayelsa State from 23 to 25 October 2025.
Olajumoke, who represented Team Edo, visited the Sports Commission’s headquarters in Benin City alongside her coach, Williams Omoroghomwan, to present her medal and formally announce her victory to the chairman.
In a statement signed by his media officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele described Olajumoke’s triumph as “a huge source of pride for Edo State and a reflection of the state’s growing dominance in strength sports.”
“I am particularly thrilled that Abiola performed exceptionally well in all her lifts — a 190kg squat, 70kg bench press, and 170kg deadlift — totalling 430kg to earn the gold medal in her weight category,” Enabulele said.
He commended the athlete’s discipline, resilience, and consistency, noting that her success demonstrated what could be achieved through hard work and steady institutional support.
The competition, which drew participants from across Nigeria, was organised by Erepadei Amos Sunday, founder and CEO of Sunny Power Athletic Barbell Global Initiative, and President of the World Powerlifting Nigeria Federation.
Enabulele also applauded other Team Edo athletes who represented Nigeria at the World Para Powerlifting Championship in Cairo, Egypt — notably Esther Oyema, who won two gold medals in the 55kg category, and Tolulope Ogundolie, who claimed two silver medals in the 45kg class.
He said their collective achievements had brought honour to Edo State and reaffirmed its position as a powerhouse in Nigerian sports.
Reiterating the state government’s commitment to sports development under Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, Enabulele assured that the Edo State Sports Commission would continue to prioritise athlete welfare, training, and participation in local and international competitions.
He urged upcoming athletes to emulate the medalists’ dedication and assured that the Commission would keep identifying and nurturing talents capable of making Edo and Nigeria proud.
