Ex-Police Chief, Arase assures Edo community of support to tackle insecurity

Former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has assured of support for the owan hunters and vigilantes to be able to fight insecurity in the area and called on the local government chairmen to payrolled the volunteers as a way of encouraging them to fight insecurity.
The former police boss who was the chairman of the maiden security Assembly by the Owan Conscience Group in Sabongidda Ora blamed the abandonment of the traditional policing system for the overwhelming insecurity in the country and called for a revisit to the old order.
Dr Arase said since the introduction of the current police system in the country the various communities have lost focus of their primary roll as community police.
He said only the local people can identify strangers and criminals in their domains and report them to the police
Dr Arase added that, indeed, Owan Land has a rich heritage — a heritage marked by a commitment to development, education, and progress. “I recall with fondness the days when Owan Land stood at the forefront of development and education in Edo State.
“Our land was known for its vibrant communities, thriving economy, and renowned educational institutions. However, it saddens me to acknowledge that in contemporary times, the pace of development in Owan Land has slowed considerably. We face numerous challenges, ranging from infrastructural deficits to economic stagnation. But let us not dwell on our challenges; instead, let us focus on the immense potential that lies within our grasp. As we gather here today, I am reminded of the words of Nelson Mandela, who said, “It always seems impossible until it is done.” Yes, the task before us may seem daunting, but I firmly believe that together, united in purpose and determination, we can overcome any obstacle that stands in our way. One of the keys to unlocking the potential of Owan Land lies in education. As a proud alumnus of the renowned Holy Trinity Grammar School in Sabongida-Ora, Owan West LGA, I can attest to the transformative power of education. It is the cornerstone upon which we can build a brighter future for the generations to come.

“With this in mind, I am pleased to announce my plans to leverage my network within and outside the state to establish a Police Secondary School in Owan Land. Education is not only a means of empowerment but also a tool for fostering peace, security, and social cohesion within our communities. By investing in the education of our youth, we are investing in the future stability and prosperity of Owan Land. Furthermore, I am committed to working closely with the current administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to address the scourge of cultism and cult-related killings in the state.

“Security is paramount to the well-being of our people, and we must spare no effort in ensuring that Owan Land remains safe and secure for all.
