The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Monday, 31st March and Tuesday, 1st April as public holidays to mark the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, made the announcement in a statement released on Wednesday by Magdalene Ajani, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary.
The Minister took the opportunity to extend congratulations to all Muslims across the country for successfully completing their fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. In his message, he urged Nigerians to reflect on the values of self-discipline, generosity, compassion, and peace, which Ramadan promotes.
Tunji-Ojo also emphasised the importance of unity, love, and forgiveness, calling on all citizens to come together and foster a sense of harmony in society. He encouraged people to use the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr to offer prayers for the peace, stability, and prosperity of Nigeria.
In his statement, the Minister expressed his hope that the festive season would serve as a catalyst for greater unity among Nigerians, transcending religious and ethnic divides.
Tunji-Ojo reminded citizens to celebrate responsibly and safely, urging acts of kindness and charity to support those less fortunate, in true adherence to the spirit of Ramadan and Eid.
On behalf of the Federal Government, he extended heartfelt Eid Mubarak wishes to the Muslim faithful and prayed that the blessings of this special season bring happiness, success, and fulfilment to all Nigerians.
