The Federal Government has intensified efforts to address insecurity in the North Central region as the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Community Engagement for the North Central Zone, Dr. Abiodun Essiet, paid a strategic working visit to Minna, the Niger State capital.
During the visit, Dr. Essiet convened a broad-based meeting with community representatives from Mashegu, Edati, Shiroro, Agaie, Agwara, Gurara, Chanchaga, Kontagora, Rafi, Mariga, Munya and Borgu local government areas, creating a platform for direct engagement and honest dialogue on the security situation across the state.
The discussions centered on gathering reliable intelligence and detailed grassroots feedback, particularly from communities severely affected by banditry and other violent threats. Participants highlighted key concerns and proposed practical solutions to support more effective government intervention.
Dr. Essiet stressed that lasting peace can only be achieved when local voices are heard and integrated into policy decisions, noting that her office serves as a bridge between the people and the Federal Government.
She reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that real-time community concerns shape federal security strategies and development plans aimed at protecting lives and restoring stability throughout the region.
The insights and recommendations generated from the engagement were immediately relayed to top state security officials, including the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Barr. Maurice Bello Magaji; the Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman; and the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), to enhance coordinated action and response.
The visit reflects the administration’s determination to adopt community-driven approaches in tackling insecurity and strengthening safety across Niger State and the wider North Central zone.
