The Federal Government has revealed that it generated approximately N2.4 billion in 2024 through marriage contracts, processed via the Ministry of Interior’s marriage registry.
Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, made the announcement on Tuesday during a press conference in Abuja on 28 January.
He further disclosed that the Ministry had also earned over N3.2 billion from expatriate quota applications. Overall, there was a significant 150 per cent increase in revenue, reflecting a positive trend in the Ministry’s financial performance.
Additionally, Dr Tunji-Ojo stated that the Ministry, through the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), had repatriated 828 foreign nationals in 2024. While the specific offences leading to these repatriations were not disclosed, the action was part of the NIS’s ongoing efforts to manage immigration matters.
